You are Perfectly Imperfect!
According to the Merriam – Webster Dictionary the word perfect is defined as, “being entirely without fault or defect; completely correct or accurate; lacking in no essential detail”. We sometime use synonyms of being flawless, impeccable and unblemished. I have yet to meet anyone or anything that matches this definition or these synonyms. Let’s look up human; this is defined as “having good or bad qualities that people usually have”. So if human is defined as having good or bad qualities but perfect is being flawless or unblemished, how can we expect humans to be something that by nature they will never be? Let’s decide now that you are no longer going to strive for becoming perfect. Stop beating yourself up and learn how to embrace being perfectly imperfect. I often say, “I love my imperfections so much that I no longer care how flawed I am”.
The late great Dr. Maya Angelou wrote a phrase in her book, “Letter to My Daughter”, that says, “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.” Don’t run from your imperfections- learn from them. I guarantee you it will save you a lot of headaches later. Most importantly, stop giving people power! No one should be able to come into your space and dictate what your perfection should look like. I once had a man tell me, “you may not be perfect but you are perfect for me” and I could do nothing more than smile because it gave me inspiration to believe the same. It was at that point where I simply stopped trying to re-adjust my life trying to be perfect for someone else. I owed it to myself to be the person who God created .
