Get Comfortable With Being Uncomfortable!!
By Charron Monaye
Getting out of your own way is the biggest challenge for many entrepreneurs…well, people period. As defined, “A comfort zone is a psychological state in which things feel familiar to a person and they are at ease and in control of their environment, experiencing low levels of anxiety and stress.” It is here that many people want to stay. Although I’m someone who would rather work behind the scenes, being an entrepreneur and businesswoman has taught me that remaining behind the computer gets you nowhere. Even though with social media, one can post or tweet about their projects and businesses, people want to see you and hear your story. So, writing books was no longer enough. Speaker Charron Monaye had to come from out of the shadows and step into the light, even though it is not one of my favorite places. But, as we know, everything we want is on the other side of what we are not used to. We will never receive different results if we continue to do the same thing. Eventually, we have to change the process of what we do and how we do it.
Back in 2013, I was comfortable with the following things:
Living Paycheck to Paycheck
Having Bad Credit
Pleasing Others and Putting Their Ideas Over My Own
Accepting What People Gave Me in the Name of Love
Being Financially Irresponsible
Being Just an Author
Hindering My Growth for the Sake of Others’ Happiness
Not Believing in Myself Enough to Jump
Just like many, I was comfortable with not seeing progress; yet sitting and complaining about not growing.
It wasn’t until 2014 that life happened, and I’d had just about enough. You see, your business life is a reflection of your personal life, and your business will never grow if your personal life isn’t on track. Don’t get me wrong, I made money from 2009 to 2013, but I wasn’t seeing a profit. My business was just as broke as I was, but I kept going. I spent money as soon as I got it, but didn’t always see a positive return. When I was faced with an unexpected situation that I was unprepared for, I promised God and myself that if He got me out of it, I would value and respect His gift and my life better. As promised, my prayers were answered, and it came time to deliver on my promise. I broke all chains of fear and uncertainty, and I transformed my life one area at a time, all while growing in the Lord and regularly attending First Baptist Church of Crestmont. At that moment, I knew the only way I would change my mindset and place in life was by putting God First. The life I wanted was unfamiliar to me. The last time I had great credit was before I went to undergrad. So, with that, I knew someone other than myself had to be in control if I ever wanted to be free. When I turned everything over to God and allowed Him to lead me, I finally had the courage to live the life I prayed for. Stepping out of my comfort zone resulted in me:
Establishing Great Credit
Building an Emergency Fund
Generating New Clients for My Writing and Coaching Programs
Being Able to Take Vacations
Generating a Profit in the Business
Being Comfortable with Sharing My Story in Public
Falling in Love
Focusing on My Business
Finding More Time to Be Social
Going from miserable to blessed took a lot of work and discipline, but in 2018, I am living my best life. I am happy as a person, and my happiness is transferring into my business. Are you living your best life?
