"Be Present, Be Thankful"

Some people are putting up Christmas lights, stockings and even listening to Christmas music and I’m just sitting here preparing my gut for Thanksgiving. I mean can we wait until AFTER Thanksgiving for all of that? Can we just stop on the turkey level please and appreciate the beans, greens, potatoes, tomatoes? Seriously though, this is supposed to be a joyous occasion where family comes together and say what they’re thankful for besides Black Friday deals and yet not many seem to be in a thankful spirit.

I love the Christmas lights and decorations just as much as the next person especially because everyone seems a whole lot nicer during the Christmas season, but why does Thanksgiving seemed to get looked over like after Halloween comes Christmas and nothing in between? Maybe it’s just me, but I have a whole lot to be thankful for.

I am thankful for EVERY bad situation or circumstance I have experienced because it made me who I am today. I HATED it at the time, but I see now that it’s made me stronger because I didn’t quit. I am thankful for the unfortunate times because they made me become serious in my faith and pray harder. I am thankful for Thanksgiving because whether I get to be around family or not, it reminds me of the little things I take for granted everyday like being able to breathe on my own and having a sound mind.

Be thankful for your child’s mother/father because deadbeat or not, they helped you make that beautiful baby you now love with all of your heart. Be thankful for your parents because even if they weren’t present, know that you are no mistake. Be thankful for your quality friends because these days so many are imitators. This Thanksgiving may we put our phones down and be present in the moment because we never know when it will be our last.
