TLC to Kickstart New Album
TLC wants to create a new album with your help.
On Monday, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas—the remaining members of TLC—launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund their upcoming musical project.
Since it’s launch, TLC’s Kickstarter campaign has already garnered $203,766 from fans—-that’s over $50,000 more than the campaign’s initial goal to raise $150,000 in 30 days.
So why would TLC—a Grammy award winning group—need money from fans to create a new album?
Well, their Kickstarter bio explains that T-Boz and Chilli plan to create the album on their own terms and without the influence and control of a major label.
“While major labels offer artists multimillion dollar recording and marketing budgets, they don't often give artists complete control of their own music. It is ESSENTIAL that we create our final album completely on our own terms, without any restrictions, with YOU. Plus, we are still singing. It’s what we love to do, so WHY NOT?!,” the Kickstarter bio reads.
The bio also adds that TLC will be enlisting the help of Kandi Burruss—who wrote “No Scrubs”—-and will incorporate the spirit of their other group member, the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez.
One of TLC’s biggest funders happens to be Katy Perry who donated 5,000 to the cause.
Naturally, the overwhelming support from fans and celebrities has made T-Boz and Chilli very happy.
"We feel highly favored and blessed and loved," Chilli recently told Yahoo! Music. “It makes us feel good that these people can believe in us and know that this can happen.”
