Comedy Central defends new ‘Daily Show’ host Trevor Noah in wake of Twitter scandal

Comedy Central is standing by incoming “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah.

The network released a statement Tuesday in support of the South African-born comic after he received backlash over some of his Twitter jokes, which were criticized as being offensive.

“Like many comedians, Trevor Noah pushes boundaries; he is provocative and spares no one, himself included,” Comedy Central said in the statement.

“To judge him or his comedy based on a handful of jokes is unfair. Trevor is a talented comedian with a bright future at Comedy Central.”

The 31-year-old found himself at the center of a scandal not long after thenetwork announced he was taking over “The Daily Show” from longtime host Jon Stewart.
