In a recent interview with Complex, Zoe Kravitz, 26 revealed that she struggled with an eating disorder when she was a teenager.

Zoe named the pressures of being a celebrity child and having very attractive parents—Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz— made her go to the extreme to fit into what she perceived as the ideal beauty.

“My mother's a beautiful woman, and I think, in some way, I felt intimidated by that sometimes,” she revealed. “Everyone sees themselves in some weird, obscure way.”

After many years of struggling with anorexia and bulimia, Zoe’s parents finally intervened when she lost even more weight while portraying an anorexic character for the 2014 film, “The Road Within.”

Zoe explained that her disorder became so severe that her immune system shut down, her menstrual cycle was thrown off, and her thyroid gland was dysfunctional.

“You could see my ribcage,” she said. “I was just trying to lose more weight for the film but I couldn’t see: You’re there. Stop. It was scary.”

Upon realizing how her eating disorders were negatively affecting her, Zoe began her road to recovery and now feels much better and more self aware.

“I feel like something has left my body, like some part of me is gone now, something that was making me so insecure. And it feels amazing.”

It’s awesome that Zoe was able to not only overcome her struggles with anorexia and bulimia, but can now share that with the world and hopefully be an inspiration for other people who may be struggling with the same thing.

Self acceptance and self confidence is key to living a fulfilling life. We applaud you Queen.
