On Thursday, April 9, Gwyneth Paltrow announced her decision to accept the Food Bank NYC Challenge.

By accepting this challenge, Gwyneth vows to live on SNAP food stamps with a $29 food budget for one week.

Gwyneth’s decision to take on the challenge is allegedly her attempt to raise awareness about hunger and stop the threats to make cuts to the NYC food stamp program which has already been cut twice since 2013.

With only $29 to spend on food for the week, Gwyneth Paltrow will only be able to spend approximately $1.38 per meal.

After accepting the challenge, Gwyneth tweeted what she bought from the grocery store with her $29 budget. Gwyneth was only able to buy a carton of eggs, seven limes, a package of tortillas, frozen peas, one ear of corn, one avocado, and one tomato.

And though Gwyneth’s intentions behind accepting the challenge are good, social media users posted tweets opposing her efforts to raise awareness on hunger.

“.@GwynethPaltrow Maybe instead of grandstanding about $29... you could help normal people and donate some of your millions to a food bank?,” Twitter user @GayPatriot wrote.

Another Twitter user @spiritualslob tweeted, “Vast difference living on food stamps for 1 week knowing you've a safetynet of millions, and that being your life every day @GwynethPaltrow.”
