On May 11th, Kendrick Lamar received a huge honor from the California State Senate with the “Generational Icon” award. Isadore Hall III praised K.Dot on his immaculate artistry and community involvement:

"He is demonstrating the best of what it means to work hard, to do well, and give back," Hall declared on the senate floor.

The Compton native gave an acceptance speech and spoke about the love he has for his city and how grateful he was for the award:

“I always thought how great the opportunity would be to give back to the community off what I do in music,” he stated. “In order to do that for my city… and have these young kids look at me as some type of inspiration is really an honor. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Kendrick released his prolific sophomore album “To Pimp a Butterfly” on March 15th.
