Denzel Washington’s Daughter Makes Stage Debut
Olivia Washington, one of Academy award winner Denzel Washington’s four children, made her off-broadway debut playing “The Glass Menagerie’s” heroine Laura.
Two years after graduating from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Olivia was accepted into Masterworks Theater company for its inaugural season and her first show with the the company was Tennessee Williams’ “The Glass Menagerie.”
Though she has the famous Washington last name, Olivia is reportedly not relying on her father’s fame and success to break into the acting business. Instead, she has been auditioning on her own and plans to continue working with Masterworks which debuted “The Glass Menagerie” this past spring at the 47th street theater in New York City.
Prior to taking on the role of Laura, Olivia performed in several NYU stage productions including “Clybourne Park.” She also had a small role in Lee Daniels’ “The Butler.”
Now that she is onboard as a Masterworks actor, Olivia and the company plan to continue presenting theater classics to diverse young audiences. Masterworks’ upcoming shows will be
“A Raisin in the Sun,” “Macbeth,” and “Of Mice and Men.”
Kudos and congrats to Olivia on making her stage debut and doing it all on her own. We look forward to seeing what else she has in store for her acting career!
