Jamie Foxx sang the National Anthem at the highly anticipated Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight on Saturday, May 2 and received lack luster reviews on his performance.

Many social media users took to Twitter and Instagram to slam Jamie’s  off-tune singing and questionable rendition of the National Anthem at the epic fight.

And though social media users weren’t too pleased with Jamie’s singing, he has since defended his performance and insists that the guests who attended the actual event were in awe of his vocal skills that night.

During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jamie revealed that moments before he needed to hit the stage, his microphone pack fell off and he was unable to hear the music while he was performing.

“That night […] my pack falls off just before I’m supposed to sing,” Jamie explained, adding, “So I have to try and listen to the organ through the speakers in the stadium and try to catch what it is.”

Despite his sound troubles, Jamie revealed that he and the guests who attended the event felt that his performance went off without a hitch.

“Man, I was getting a standing ovation,”  Jamie added. “We were walking around like, ‘Wow, we nailed that. Everything was great.’ I even saw Denzel Washington. He was like, ‘My n—-, that was amazing.’”

However when Jamie watched a replay of his performance on television he admitted to seeing the faults in his performance that many social media users commented on. Still, Jamie feels that his performance wasn’t as bad as people made it seem.

“I didn’t think I committed a sin against America,” Jamie quipped.
