Lupita N’yongo Delivers Lackluster ‘Star Wars’ Performance?
Lupita N’yongo may have won an Oscar for her breathtaking performance in “12 Years a Slave,” but her role in the upcoming “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” film was reportedly less than impressive.
The movie’s director JJ Abrams was allegedly so underwhelmed by Lupita’s performance that he forced editors to cut Lupita from several scenes.
Sources say that Lupita was not able to fully connect with her “Star Wars” character Maz Kanatabecause of the heavy special effects that was implemented into the film. Because of this, her role was significantly reduced.
"There was a general sense that something wasn’t working so a lot of her scenes ended up being either re-worked or cut. Unfortunately she just didn’t end up delivering,” says a Sun source adding, "It does happen in Hollywood, but not usually with Academy Award winners. Her part in the final film will now be a lot smaller than was initially expected. It’s ultimately quite embarrassing for Lupita but she’s still thrilled to even be in such an iconic movie.”
Better luck next time Lupita! We’re sure there will be many more opportunities coming your way and we certainly can’t wait to see what you do next.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” hits theaters December 18.
