Selena Gomez Reveals she was Diagnosed with Lupus

During a recent interview with Billboard, 23-year-old songstress Selena Gomez discussed the many changes in her life that led to creation of her latest album “Revival” which was released on Friday.

We know thatwhen it comes to love, Selena has had her fair share of drama in her on-again and now off-again relationship with Justin Bieber. But she also revealed to Billboard that her struggles surpassed love—-she also experienced struggles with her health.

The main reason why Selena took some time off from music is because she was diagnosed with lupus, she revealed.

"I was diagnosed with lupus, and I've been through chemotherapy. That's what my break was really about. I could've had a stroke," she told Billboard adding, “I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”

Though chemotherapy is not the standard treatment for lupus patients, CNN reports that patients with a more aggressive form of lupus seek chemotherapy treatment while others with a less severe form of the disease seek more milder treatments such as immunosuppressants or anti-inflammatories.

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that typically affects the skin, joints, blood and kidneys. This autoimmune disease is rare but it affects mostly women.

Thankfully, Selena’s chemotherapy treatments have proven to be effective. She is now ready to embark on a new chapter in her life and career with the release of her album “Revival.” Selena also recently announced that she will go on tour to the U.S. and Canada from May to July.

Shoutout to Selena for being brave and sharing her inspiring story to the public and kudos to her for being in better spirits and better health. We wish her continued success in her life.  Kudos to you!
